CASA/GAL Meets Congress

7:00 am - end time varies
Cost: $50

The National CASA/GAL Association for Children will host CASA/GAL Meets Congress (CGMC) on June 9, 2020, in Washington, DC. CGMC is held every four years in conjunction with the national conference in Washington DC. The conference is in DC every Presidential election year – that is also when 1/3 of the Senate and all members of the House are up for re-election. By all accounts, the past CGMCs were a great success and the CASA/GAL network had a strong and vibrant presence on Capitol Hill.

CGMC is an opportunity for CASA/GAL staff, volunteers, board members, judges and other advocates to increase awareness of CASA/GAL advocacy with Congressional members and staff. As Congress is primed to consider action on several measures that will affect the CASA/GAL network, we encourage you to participate in CGMC to share information about the great work you are doing on behalf of children in your communities and communicate the impact of proposed legislation on children who have experienced abuse or neglect.

At CGMC, you can establish or build your relationship with your Members of Congress and their staff, educate legislators about the work you do, and ask them to take specific actions in support of your work and the children you serve. In addition to Capitol Hill visits, we will have a kick-off breakfast that will feature guest speakers.
CGMC is the largest Congressional activity sponsored by National CASA/GAL. CGMC is distinct from the conference. The conference will close on Monday and CGMC will kick off Tuesday morning.
We hope that you can join us for this important event. It is a great opportunity to talk about our vital mission for children who have experienced abuse or neglect and to highlight the critical work done on the ground in communities across the country.

National CASA/GAL is continuing to plan for the annual conference. Our first concern is for the health and well-being for all of our conference participants. Our conference staff are in close contact with representatives from the Washington Hilton to understand the measures they are taking to ensure the well-being of all hotel guests. Because this is an evolving situation, we are closely monitoring the travel and health guidelines outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the U.S. Department of State, related to the coronavirus (COVID-19). We will continue to monitor and follow the recommendations outlined by these sources.

National CASA/GAL will provide periodic updates via the Network News, the portal or other conference outlets about the status of the conference, as we are able to better assess the evolving situation. If you have any questions, please contact conference@nationalcasagal.org.
